Sonoma auditions for ‘The Rainmaker’ on June 24

Calling all actors!|

Sonoma Arts Live is inviting local actors to audition for its upcoming production of “The Rainmaker,” The romantic three-act was written by N. Richard Nash and will be directed by Patrick Nims. The play will be staged from Oct. 13 to 30, 2017.

Auditions are from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 in Andrews Hall at 276 E. Napa St.

“The Rainmaker” is described by Jaime Love as “a gorgeous, romantic, and funny play, with six honest characters searching for hope in a dry, desperate land.” It is the story of the Curry family (father, two brothers and a sister), who are ranchers worried about the future of their land and livelihood.

The men of the ranch (HC, Noah and Jim) are concerned about the drought that is affecting their land, and about Lizzie. Although not yet 30, Lizzie Curry fears becoming a hopeless old maid. Her wit and intelligence can’t make up for the fact that she’s plain. That is until Starbuck -- a self-proclaimed “Rainmaker” comes on the scene. His dreams, passion, and self-con?dance are infectious, and dangerous. The cast also includes File, the deputy who suffers his own humiliations, and the Sheriff, who hopes to guide his deputy and friend to some kind of peace.
