On the softest summer nights of the year, when the grape clusters are growing fulsome and fat, the annual outdoor film festival at St. Francis Winery commences. It is summer’s sweet apex, before the dog days arrive, and the film series is among the finest free fun in the North Bay.
Every Thursday in July affords a new pleasure, with four beloved classics in the queue for this year. Each film is preceded by an open-air concert, with El Coyote Mexican Food and sommelier-paired wines available for purchase.
On Thursday, July 6, “The Breakfast Club” screens, featuring an angst-y Molly Ringwald and surly Judd Nelson navigating classic teenage turmoil. “Band Camp” is the featured musical guest.
Thursday, July 13 showcases “Grease” with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, with “Wine Country Jazz” swinging beforehand.
“Some Like It Hot” plays on Thursday, July 20, featuring Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis at peak ripeness, with the “Carlos Herrera Band” cranking up the caliente before the show.
The series concludes with “Good Will Hunting” on Thursday, July 27, a coming-of-age classic starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. “Nate Lopez” provides the pre-show entertainment.
Guests are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or low chairs. Dogs are discouraged due to capacity issues. Outside alcohol is strictly prohibited, as St. Francis is pouring its own at $8 a glass. The “Stars Under the Stars” outdoor film festival is in its eighth year, with food and entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Complimentary popcorn is available to all, and the featured films begin at dusk.
St. Francis Winery is located at 100 N. Pythian Road off Highway 12.
