Abbey Lee stars in ‘Tarzan’ at Spreckels

Sonoma actress stars as Jane Porter in Spreckels’ musical|

Spreckels Theatre Company presents a production of “Disney’s Musical Tarzan” this weekend, starring Sonoma Valley High School graduate Abbey Lee, ‘07.

Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan’s life is changed when he encounters creatures like himself after a human expedition treks into his tribe’s territory. Tarzan struggles to understand his emotions when his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.

The story by Edgar Rice Burroughs comes to life in the popular family friendly musical. The show runs May 5 to May 21, at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with 1 p.m. matinees on Saturdays and Sundays.

Last November, Lee received the award for “Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Musical” from the Sonoma County-based Marquee Theater Journalists Association. She was honored for her performance as Arabella Rittenhouse and Mrs. Whitehead in the 6th Street Playhouse 2016 musical production “Animal Crackers.”
