With his “uncanny ability to extemporize,” as one band statement puts it, Carlos Herrera is putting Latin American music on the map this month as part of a concert series presented by the Sonoma/Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park.

The Carlos Herrera Band takes the stage Wednesday, Aug. 10 at the Mission San Francisco Solano. The 7 p.m. show will feature the band’s patented style of Latin music, encompassing diverse styles ranging from the music’s colonial roots to contemporary popular influences, with an emphasis on music from Latin America. Guitarist and singer Herrera leads the band in its provocative, improvisational style.

The mission is at 114 E. Spain St. $10 at the door; $5 SPP members; docents, volunteers and staff. Call 938-9560.
