Finish choir, ensemble at FAHA

Tuesday afternoon on the lawn|

The Helsinki Evangelical Choir and the Obstrobothnian Evangelical Wind Ensemble have made Sonoma a stop on their current West Coast tour, and will be performing at the gazebo at FAHA on Tuesday, July 19, at 2 p.m.

The Helsinki Evangelical Choir was established in 1883 and is one of the oldest choirs in Finland. The group performs regularly for congregations in Finland, Sweden, Russia and Estonia. The eight touring members will perform a selection of Finnish spiritual music in four-part harmony. Some of the music has been translated into English, and some has original English words.

The Southern Ostrobothnian Evangelical Wind Ensemble is much newer, established in 1994. Its repertoire consists of 200 hymns, 80 spiritual or classic pieces, patriotic and folk music. The group will be led by Kullervo Puumala, cantor, choir director.

Attendees are invited to bring a lawn chair and a picnic and enjoy an afternoon of Finnish culture. The Finnish American Home Association is located at 197 West Verano Avenue in Sonoma. There is ample free parking and picnic table seating available. No alcohol please.
