The Justin-Siena High school choir and advanced choir are partnering with the great grand-children of Captain Georg and Maria von Trapp, of “The Sound of Music” fame, for a Christmas concert, “The Sound of Christmas,” at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4.

Six local Sonoma students are in the choir, and will perform with the Von Trapps; the students include seniors Grace Avellar and Matthew Scott, junior Craig Abigail, sophomore Margaret Nugent and freshmen Eva Bundschu and Rosie McGovern. Said freshman Rosie McGovern, “I’m very excited to be performing with the Von Trapps. It’s a great opportunity and we all can’t wait!”

The next generation of Von Trapps includes siblings Sofia (26), Melanie (24), Amanda (23) and August (20).

When they are not singing holiday favorites, the von Trapps have a new album out, “Dancing in Gold,” inspired by the work of artists like Fleet Foxes, Beach House, Sufjan Stevens, Françoise Hardy and the Beach Boys.

The concert on Dec. 4 celebrates both Christmas and the 50th anniversary of “The Sound of Music.” The performances will be held at the Napa Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater in Yountville. Tickets are available at lincolntheater.com.
