Joy Formbidable rocks Sonoma, fire benefit concert, Jeff German and Leta Davis

GunBun wraps its season with Joy Formidable|

Jeff Bundschu is wrapping up his concert season at the Gundlach Bundschu Winery this Saturday, Nov. 21, with an appearance by the Joy Formidable in the historic redwood barn. Together since 2007, the act has been described by Rolling Stone magazine as 'wickedly bracing and Himalaya-huge.'

The band just released its third album and describes a shift in their music. 'We realized we needed to build a space and do it ourselves, go back to being three people in a room again' said guitarist-singer Ritzy Bryan. The band has opened for some big names, including Paul McCartney, the Foo Fighters and the Black Keys.

Opening the show will be Moth and the Flame. Relatively new on the scene, they feature singer-guitarist Brandon Robbins, keyboardist-vocalist Mark Garbett and former Imagine Dragons drummer Andrew Tolman.

The show goes off at 7 p.m. and tickets will be available at the door. Parking is free for wine club members and those who carpool with three or more per vehicle. For more information, point your browser to gunbun.com/calendar

Even though it seems like a while ago and may be out of many peoples' thoughts, our friends and neighbors in Lake County are still in need of help following the Valley fire; once again, our local musicians are coming together to help out. Having already put on one fundraising event that raised $1,400, the 'Dark Lord' Byron Burt is putting on another show this Saturday, Nov. 21, at B&V Whiskey Bar and Grille. Touched personally by friends who lost everything, including his boss at his day job at the Copy Store and More, Burt said, 'I don't have a lot of money to donate but I do know how to bring musicians together.' The event Saturday, which kicks off at 8 p.m., will feature Crystal Vision (formerly Tsunami), Tilted Halos, Half People, Liz Fanora Jones and more. There is no cover charge, but donations will be accepted all evening long and handled by the Redwood Credit Union donation fund set up for the Valley fire victims.

You see her every year marching in the Fourth of July parade with a trailer full of children all playing violin, or you may have taken a class from her, or maybe know her as violin protégée Nigel Armstrong's first instructor. Regardless of how you may or may not know Leta Davis, you can get to know her a little better and see her perform with her 'Studio Orchestra' on Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Sonoma Valley Woman's Club at 4 p.m. The show will be introducing local sixth grader Dylan Martinelli of Woodland Star Charter School soloing on 'Oblivion' by Astor Piazzolla as well as 7-year-old Kai Turley soloing on the Bach Double Violin Concerto. The group will play some Beatles, swing and tangos along with Bach and Piazzolla. Tickets will be available at the door.

There may still be a few tickets left for a house concert here in the Valley that features Jeff German tonight, Nov. 20, kicking off at 7 p.m. Ohio-based German brings his blue-collar Americana to Sonoma on the first stop of his West Coast tour.

He's touring to support his new album '12 Packs, 8 Tracks, and Black & White TV,' which boasts the single 'Hang On' that is getting local airplay. Dale Geist opens the show.
