Making monoprints from photos

SCC offers workshop for teens|

The Sonoma Community Center is launching the third installment in its Master Class series for teens.

The summertime series is designed to spark students’ interest in the arts by providing unique access to innovative artists, quality equipment and studio space at the Center.

The Center will present “Monoprinting: Portraits & Figures from Photographs” from 10 a.m. to ?3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8.

Instructed by Brigitte McReynolds, this one-day class will cover basic monoprinting, a technique created by painting on thin plexiglass plates with printing inks.

Students will begin class by taking photographs of one another, then place them under plexiglass as a guide for painting individual self-portraits and figure paintings. Next, students will transfer their imagery onto paper via a printing press, so they can create a one-of-a-kind series of prints to take home.

McReynolds brings more than two decades of education and experience to her work as a local printmaker.

She is a graduate of both the School of Art ?and Art Therapy in Munich, Germany, and studied monoprinting at Il Bisonte in Florence, Italy.

She has exhibited throughout Germany and the United States.

The class is open to students ages 13-17. Tuition is $65 and financial aid is available.

A final master class is slated for September.

All master classes are made possible with support from the Sonoma Plein Air Foundation.
