Woodworker Bill Taft and photographer Alexis Greenberg are the featured artists in this week’s Studio 35’s “Meet the Artists” series, from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, July 10.

Studio 35 is located at 35 Patten St., Sonoma.

Taft practices marquetry is the process of cutting and assembling a variety of thin pieces of different woods, ‘veneers,’ to create a pattern or a picture. All of Taft’s marquetry art is made using only hardwood veneers with natural wood tones.

He has recently added carving to some of his marquetry artwork and is using marquetry and carving to create sculptures.

Taft is a guild member of the Sonoma County Woodworkers Association and a member of the American Marquetry Society.

“Most of my work is influenced by my love of nature, especially wildflowers and wildlife. For me, wood is a great creative medium. It has a natural beauty that can be used to create almost any artistic form,” he said.

Greenberg specializes in photography of landscapes and people she encounters while traveling. She produced a variety of documented sights from Italy, England, Israel, California and the Caribbean. Her “Multiple Exposures Series”  showcases her creative side.

“I’m creating a visual rhyme, giving these images something that did not exist before,” she said. She has a photography studio in Healdsburg, and currently works as a freelance photographer, art consultant and art teacher in the North Bay.

Their artwork is regularly exhibited at the gallery. The studio hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
