The world-renowned Alexander String Quartet returns to Sonoma by popular demand at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Jacuzzi Family Vineyards, 24724 Arnold Drive, Sonoma

Sponsored by the Sonoma Classical Music Society, the Quartet’s program spans almost two centuries of music, with quartets by Mozart, Benjamin Britten and Johannes Brahms.

The May 17 concert marks the Alexander Quartet’s eighth appearance in Sonoma since 2004, under the auspices of the Sonoma Classical Music Society. This year, the Alexander String Quartet will perform three quartets highlighting the Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods, and encompassing almost 200 years of musical output.

Currently celebrating its 34th anniversary, the Alexander String Quartet (Zakarias Grafilo, violin, Frederick Lifsitz, violin, Paul Yarbrough, viola, Sandy Wilson, cello) is one of the world’s premier ensembles, widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart, Shostakovich, and Bartok.

Tickets for the concert are $35 for the general public, $30 for members of the Society, and $10 for students. There will also be special “Bistro” seating available for $50 a ticket, with a free bottle of wine given for each table of four. Tickets may be obtained from the Society’s website, sonomaclassical.org, and will be available from Readers’ Books, Pharmaca, and Vintage House and at the door.
