The Sebastiani Theatre will screen the documentary, “In Tahrir Square: 18 Days of Egypt’s Unfinished Revolution,” at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 8, to raise funds for James McKale’s senior project.

McKale, a senior at Sonoma Valley High School, has chosen to help build a new education center in Egypt for his senior project. Admission is $10 at the door, and all proceeds from this event will go directly to the construction of the Aswan Center for Education (ACE) in the Nubian community of Ghard (West) Aswan.

The focus of ACE will be teaching women in the community a variety of life and economic skills involving the making and marketing of crafts, home health and economics, and first aid training. ACE will be the focal point of empowerment for those women to succeed as entrepreneurs and caretakers of healthy families.

The event will start with the serving of Egyptian refreshments, including Karkade (hibiscus tea) prior to the viewing at 1 p.m. The film will be followed by a short question and answer session with George McKale, Sonoma’s City Historian and the current chairperson of the Sonoma-Aswan Committee. There will also be a raffle giving away exotic Egyptian treasures and sweets.

People who can’t make the March 8 viewing can still contribute by making a check payable to Sonoma Sister Cities Association (note ACE in the memo section) and mail it to P.O. Box 1975, Sonoma, CA 95476.

All donations are tax-deductible.
