Carrtunes play 'Listening Show' at St. Andrew

The large room at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Feb. 15, will be the place where you can hear the sounds of the Carrtunes in a true listening environment. The group plays many folk classics but the vocal harmonies of the ladies in the act will remind you of the Andrews Sisters. The band will be recording the show as well and if all goes right, may even make the show into a live CD. Showtime is 5 p.m. and there is no cover, but donations are welcome and will go toward the youth program at the church.

The Sonoma Community Center continues its 2015 Winter Performance Series on the Rotary Stage in Andrews Hall, with a special Valentine’s Day show on Saturday, Feb. 14, that will feature music director Cynthia Tarr backed by the Black and White Jazz Band. The show will feature romance-themed songs from the Great American Songbook as well as some traditional blues and jazz. Jim Castrone, leader and drummer of the band, has assembled quite a line-up of musicians for the show including Tim Wat on keyboard, Erik Nelson on trumpet and Ted Burik on bass. Showtime is 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the door or before at svbo.org.

Rossi’s 1906 presents a two-act night tonight, Feb. 13, with the Best Mates and Freeworks taking the stage. The Best Mates are a duo from Sonoma Valley that play original music in a way that is familiar and will have you singing along in no time. Freeworks plays original folk-punk. The night is also a “Tap Takeover” by newly revitalized Sonoma Springs Brewery, as they will be pouring four of their brews at the bar that night. Showtime is 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, it’s a Valentine’s Day dance party with the Jami Jamison Band. We’ve said it many times that Jami is one of the best undiscovered female vocalists in all of the North Bay. That show starts a little earlier than usual at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, it’s the Tri Tip Trio for an afternoon show that kicks off at 4 p.m.

Burgers and Vine presents The Sonoma All-Stars and tonight, Feb. 13, will showcase Alice Stuart. Stuart comes with credentials too lengthy to mention here, but among them she has toured with the likes of Van Morrison, Commander Cody, Michael Bloomfield and John Prine and has appeared and recorded with Jerry Garcia, John Hammond, Richard Greene, Elvin Bishop, Dave Mason, Sonny Terry and Tower of Power. Said to be ahead of her time, she was playing “girl rock” long before Suzy Quatro, the Runaways or Chrissy Hynde. Backing her tonight will be Codi Binkley, Junior Boogie, David Aguilar, Cliff Hugo, Roy Blumenfeld and Austin Delone. Tickets will be available at the door for the 9:30 p.m. show. Saturday, Feb. 14, it’s a Mardi Gras party with the Zydeco Flames, also kicking off at 9:30 p.m.

The Annex Wine Bar presents Amy Hogan and the Bee Rays tonight, Feb. 13, playing original singer-songwriter music kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, it’s “Lovefest” with Sue Albano and Tsumani along with Wildflower Weed. There will also be a marketplace that will showcase jewelry, hand-dyed garments and essential oils. Dinner will also be served at 6 p.m. Music kicks off at 7 p.m. There is no cover but the venue is 21 and over only. For more info, point your browser to annexwinebar.com

Adobe Road Winery has an open acoustic jam in the tasting room on Sunday, Feb. 15, kicking off at 4:30 p.m. Musicians are welcome to bring their own acoustic instruments; guitars, kazoos, dulcimers, banjos, bongos etc. The venue will also have wines by the glass and cheese plates available.

Muscardini Cellars in Kenwood has “Uncorked and Unplugged” in the tasting room tonight, Feb. 13, with a strictly acoustic performance from Wildflower Weed, starting at 5 p.m. Admission includes a glass of wine.

Showcase the Band will be at the Moose Lodge on Saturday, Feb. 14, for a Valentine’s Day dance party that kicks off at 6 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door.

The Erik James Tasting Room has music tonight, Feb. 13, with Ron Dubin and the Rosetown Ramblers kicking off at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, it’s “A Funky New Orleans Valentine Celebration with John Lee Sanders,” also for a 7 p.m. show. Nominated for an Emmy in 2007, Sanders has shared the stage, opened for, recorded or toured with some of the legends last 50 years, including Jimmy Page, Stevie Wonder, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Starship, Bill Withers, Chuck Berry, Bonnie Raitt, Freddie King, John Lee Hooker, Tower of Power and many more. There is no cover either night, but there is a $10 minimum.

The Plaza Bistro welcomes the Noel Jewkes Quartet tonight, Feb. 13, for a 7 p.m. start. Jewkes is one of the premier saxophone players in Northern California and has worked in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 35 years, earning a distinguished reputation with lovers of Jazz music. According to Phil Elwood of the San Francisco Examiner, Jewkes is “ ... the best mainstream reedman in the Bay Area as of 1998. I don’t know of a better contemporary modern saxman anywhere.” There is no cover.

HopMonk Tavern Sonoma has Dawn Angelosante and Tony Gibson tonight, Feb. 13 for an 8 p.m. showtime. Saturday, Feb. 14, it’s Aaron Redner and David Thom, also for an 8 p.m. start.

Murphy’s Irish Pub has the Highway Poets tonight, Feb. 13, kicking off at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, it’s Blue and Lonesome, for a night of bluegrass also at 8 p.m.

The Epicurean Connection presents Billy Don Burns tonight, Feb. 13, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, it’s Deluxe for a night of blues, also for a 7:30 p.m. show. Sunday, Feb. 15, it’s an early start for Misty Adana, kicking off at 1 p.m.

The Blue Moon Saloon has karaoke on Saturday, Feb. 14, starting at 9 p.m. It’s the continuation of the blues jam on Sunday, Feb. 15, starting at 9:30 p.m. There is no cover.
