Local singer-songwriter Cliff Goldmacher got an early Christmas present this month when two songs he co-wrote went on the charts. On Dec. 2, Spencer Day, a top-charting jazz vocalist, released “Christmas With You,” a song Goldmacher co-wrote with composer Joel Evans. Then 14 days later, Lisa Loeb released “Light,” a Hanukkah song she wrote with Goldmacher. “Songwriting is a very personal craft, but if you can lay your ego aside, it’s amazing what you can do when you collaborate with a gifted artist,” said Goldmacher, who teaches classes on collaborative songwriting. Congrats Cliff!

If you’ve seen even one live music show in Sonoma Valley the past year, it’s likely you’ve seen keyboardist Bob McBain perform. A full-time musician, McBain recently had a bad stroke of luck with his car and without a vehicle, it’s tough to get to gigs. The Sonoma County Blues Society is putting on a benefit to help McBain get back on the road on Sunday, Dec. 28, at the Twin Oaks Tavern in Penngrove. The lineup was still being finalized at press time, but a number of local blues artists are expected to come and help out. Showtime is 1 p.m. and all donations are welcome.
