Early 3-way tie atop men’s Benny hoops standings

Though it’s only four weeks into the 15-game Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League’s 2013-14 schedule, the signs are in place for another hotly contested run to the regular-season title and postseason championship playoffs.

Sitting tied atop of the league standings with 3-1 records are La Salette, R&B Custom Home Builders and defending playoff champion Patt’s Copy World, followed by defending regular-season champion Heffernan Insurance Brokers at 2-2, Murphy’s Irish Pub’s 1-3, and VOM Fire’s 0-4.

In Jack Benny action from Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Altimira Middle School gym, Patt’s Copy World upended Murphy’s Irish Pub 58-46, led by Tim Lilly’s 18 points, Dave Studdert’s 14, Mark Fidler’s 11, Robert Romano’s nine and Dan Flohr’s six. The Pub was paced by Jeff Kellogg’s game-high 22 points with three treys, Beni Comma’s 12 on four treys, Jamie Svanda’s six, Eric Jorgensen’s four and Rich Tunheim’s two.

La Salette trimmed R&B Custom Home Builders 61-56, led by Mike Kellison’s game-high 19 points, Kim Batchelder’s 17, John Barr’s 15 on five treys, Don Fowler’s five, Marc Traverso’s three and Rick Cantor’s two. Pacing R&B were Chris Nufo’s 17 points with five treys, Chris Schnabel’s 12, Al Martinson’s seven, Craig Brown’s six and Ron Hall’s two.

Heffernan Insurance Brokers stopped VOM Fire 67-36, led by Cody Sanderlin’s game-high 17 points with four treys, Devin Ajax’s 15, Kevin Jaggie’s 12, Clem Moore’s eight, Joe Neely’s seven, Steve Matuszak’s six and Pete Ahern’s two. VOM was paced by Pat Dudy’s 12 points on four treys, Gary Johnson and Chris Ratto’s eight each, Jason Campbell and Edwin Hidalgo’s three apiece, and Joe Kirkwood’s two.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, Patt’s Copy World downed Heffernan Insurance Brokers 50-26, led by Lilly’s game-high 19 points with three treys, Studdert’s 13, Fidler’s 10 with three treys, Jeremy Lawson’s six and Scott Summers’ two. Pacing the Brokers were Neely’s 14 points, Moore’s seven, Ahern’s three and Matuszak’s two.

R&B Custom Home Builders defeated VOM Fire 65-41, led by Martinson’s game-high 19 points with five treys, Schnabel’s 17, Brown’s 11, Nufo’s six, Hall’s five, and Gary MacKinnnon’s and Mario Carafanello’s four each. VOM was paced by Campbell’s 12 points on four treys, Dudy’s 11 on three treys, Rob Ingersoll’s eight, Matt Ingersoll and AJ Armanini’s four apiece, and Kirkwood’s two.

Murphy’s Irish Pub toppled La Salette 58-37, led by Kellogg’s game-high 26 points with three treys, Comma’s 11 with three treys, Svanda’s nine on three treys, and three each by Jorgensen, Tunheim, Steve Mellinger and John Malinkowski. Pacing La Salette were Fowler’s 15 points, Batchelder and Aaron Smith’s seven apiece, Kellison and Cantor’s three each, and John Reed’s two.
