Unable to put a crooked number on the scoreboard, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity baseball boys used a one-run attack and a stellar all-around performance by senior Mitch Hood to wrap up both their regular season and Sonoma County League campaign on a triumphant note.
With Hood pitching a complete game, five-hitter, while rapping out four hits, the Dragons scored single runs in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings en route to a 4-1 SCL victory over El Molino Tuesday afternoon in Forestville.
Leading Sonoma past the Lions were winning pitcher Hood’s four-for-four with a run scored; junior CJ Vitale’s three-for-four with an RBI; senior Vinny Albano’s two-for-four, including a double and a run; sophomores MacLean Meyn and Spencer McNairy’s single and run each; senior Jimmy Flatt and freshman Carson Snyder’s single apiece; and senior Dan Deely’s RBI.
The Dragons – who with today’s bye will host their annual alumni game at 7 p.m. under the Arnold Field lights – finish the SCL regular season with an 8-4 third-place record, and will host the annual postseason SCL Tournament at Arnold Field that starts Tuesday, May 13.
Rounding out the Sonoma varsity team’s roster – directed by head coach Don Lyons and assistant coaches Mario Alioto, Brian Alden, Jody Ray and Nate Rowland – are seniors Ronnie Cotter, Andrew DeMartini and Jack Murphy; juniors Thomas Crumly, Kyle Dunevent and Graham Herder.
