Dragons mauled by McClymonds

After facing one of the top North Bay teams, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity football boys took on one of the top East Bay squads and, for the second straight Friday, ended up dropping a lopsided decision.

Following their recent Sonoma County League 55-20 rout in Sebastopol by defending champion Analy, the Dragons, hobbled by injuries, traveled to Oakland Friday night and found a similar fate as small-school power McClymonds soundly shut them down and out with a 52-0 nonleague defeat.

“That was the one of the talented, toughest and most complete teams I’ve seen and, though we were overmatched, I’m proud of how our guys hung in there and competed,” said Sonoma head coach Bob Midgley.

The Dragons will next return to SCL action to finish out the final four weeks of the season, starting with their annual homecoming game taking place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct 17, when they host Piner.

Sonoma then travels to Healdsburg for a Friday night, Oct. 24, showdown, before hosting El Molino in its home finale on Halloween Friday, Oct. 31, and wrapping up the regular season at Elsie Allen in Santa Rosa on Friday, Nov. 7.

Dragons of the Week

The Dragons of the Week for Sonoma Valley's Friday night SCL loss to defending champion Analy in Sebastopol were Kyle Dunevent and Will Lennon.

Dunevent, a 5-foot, 9-inch, 165-pound senior defensive back, wide receiver and special teams standout, turned in a strong effort with his all-around play, including making key tackles, catching two passes, and coming up with productive kick-off and punt returns.

Lennon, a 6-0, 155-pound junior quarterback in into his first season on the varsity, didn't backed down to McClymonds continuing defensive pressure and in-your-face man-to-man defensive coverage.

The Dragons of the Week are sponsored by Eraldi’s Men’s Wear and Shoes, and Broadway Market.
