Dragon gridders manhandle Elsie Allen

Six different Dragons scored Friday night as Sonoma Valley High trounced the Elsie Allen Lobos 55-6.

Sonoma got two touchdowns from quarterback Dan Deely and one each from Tristan Mertens, Ed Pomeroy, Mitch Hood, Austin Bailey and Hank Anderson.

The Dragons jumped out to an early 7-0 lead when Deely hit Mertens with a 10-yard touchdown pass a little more than two minutes into the game. Sonoma threatened two more times in the first quarter but turned the ball over on downs once while an interception stopped another drive.

Sonoma exploded for 27 points in the second quarter – including three scores in a four-and-a-half-minute span – to take a 34-0 lead.

Elsie Allen finally got on the board in the third quarter.

Sonoma Coach Bob Midgley emptied his bench in the second half. Because of the point differential, the game clock ran the entire fourth quarter.

The win was Sonoma’s fifth straight and it gives the Dragons a 7-2 overall record and 4-1 in the SCL.

The Dragons travel to Petaluma in the season finale next Friday.
