With both teams fielding incomplete lineups and having to forfeit multiple bouts, the defending Sonoma County League champion Sonoma Valley High School varsity wrestlers pulled out a 37-36 dual-match, tie-breaking SCL triumph last Thursday evening at longtime rival Petaluma.

Evening their league dual-match record at 2-2 with the victory, the Dragons kept their SCL title hopes afloat behind Analy and Healdsburg.

Leading Sonoma to the road victory over the Trojans were senior co-captain Harris Meglen’s pin-win over Espahthiu at 122 pounds; senior co-captain Max Schimm’s pinning of Machado at 154; freshman Noah Bartolome’s win by way of a pin over Spaletta at 147; juniors Jack Biaggi (172) and Jake Randuch (140), and sophomore Brandon Ruiz (162), won on forfeits; sophomore Austin Beltran’s pinning by Waters at 197; frosh Maclain Goertzen’s loss by way of a pin to Sullivan at 128; and frosh Victor Vazquez’s pin-defeat to Hartlieb at 134.

The Dragon grapplers will travel to Santa Rosa tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 5, for an SCL dual with Piner, before they host Elsie Allen in their dual-match finale on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
