Dragon boy golfers, netters victorious

On the heels of posting a pair of well-played Sonoma County League road victories, the Sonoma Valley High School boys’ golf and tennis teams continued their winning ways at home on Tuesday.

While the Sonoma netters defeated El Molino 5-2 on the high school courts, the Dragon golfers took care of business by beating Healdsburg 229-238 at the Sonoma Golf Club.

Leading Sonoma past the visiting Greyhounds on the SGC links were junior Christian Ballard’s nine-hole round of 41; junior Cyle Gusse’s 42; senior Dante Monterosso’s 45; senior Bailey Woodworth’s 49; and junior Brett Sullivan’s 52.

The Dragons hosted league foe Piner yesterday at the SGC course, with the results not available at presstime.

Sonoma’s tennis boys claimed three of the four singles matches and took two-of-three in doubles en route to their convincing 5-2 victory over El Molino.

Winning their matches for the Dragons were junior Caleb Horowitz’s 7-5, 6-4 over Sawyer Chesnut-Pinto at No. 1 singles; junior James McKale’s 6-1, 6-2 over Arlo David at No. 3 singles; junior Sam Sondheim’s 6-4, 6-3 over Casey Hackett at No. 4 singles; juniors Vince Caruso and Kaden Cable’s 6-4, 6-4 over Cade Stan and Prince Buttar at No. 1 doubles; and freshmen Liam Handron and Matt McKale’s 6-0, 6-2 over Edmundo Lopez and Sam Kang at No. 2 doubles.

Sustaining Sonoma’s losses were senior Magnus Forsythe’s 1-6, 1-6 to Andes Toruno at No. 2 singles; and sophomores Ian Bon and Miles Pimentel’s 3-6, 6-1, 0-1 (8-10) to Ellery Kuntz and Drake Myhre at No. 3 doubles.

The Dragon netters hosted SCL foe Healdsburg yesterday, with the results not available at presstime.
