Dragon boy, girl swimmers edge combined Clear Lake, Kelseyville squads

In last Thursday’s pair of hard-fought Sonoma County League dual meets in Rohnert Park, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity boys and girls’ swim squads pulled out impressive under-manned and razor-thin dual-meet wins, respectively, over combined Clear Lake-Kelseyville teams.

Down four swimmers, the six Dragon boys who competed, including juniors Andre Alcantar and Adam Curry, and sophomores Cian Lacy, Jack Lewis, Jacob Paine and Noah White – banded together and took home a 66-55 triumph.

Leading Sonoma were the winning 200-yard medley relay team of Alcantar, Curry, Lacy and Lewis in 2 minutes, 10.02 seconds; Lacy’s 50 free and 100 butterfly first places in 25.12 and 1:09.80, respectively; Lewis’ 100 breast-stroke first in 1:17.58 and 200 individual medley second in 2:45.90; White’s 100 backstroke first in 1:35.74, and 100 freestyle third in 1:19.38; Curry’s 50 and 500 free seconds in 25.99 and 6:20.37, respectively; Paine’s 200 free second in 2:23.64; and Alcantar’s 100 free second in 1:07.58 and 500 free third in 8:02.40.

The Sonoma girl swimmers went down to the second-to-last event before squeeking out a 78-76 victory.

Leading  the Lady Dragons was the triumphant 200 free relay team of senior Gina Peil, junior Amanda Gillion, sophomore Natalie Baker and freshman Cameron Taggesell in 2:20.10; the winning 200 free relay team of Gillion, Taggesell, Peil and junior Amanda Ramponi in 2:03.93; Gillion’s 100 breast first-place finish in 1:26.81 and 100 fly second in 1:12.65; and Ramponi’s 50 free first in 30.93.

Sonoma was also led by Taggesell’s 200 IM and 500 free second places in 2:59.27 and 7:40.28, respectively; senior Maria Hawing’s 50 free second in 32.40; sophomore Annie Greenslade’s 100 back second in 1:37.35; Peil’s 100 free second in 1:12.90 and 200 IM third in 3:11.55; sophomore Natalie Baker’s 200 free second in 2:38.44; junior Raegen Hedley’s 100 back third in 1:41.80; and sophomore Briana Lehane’s 100 free third in 1:19.07.

The Dragon swim teams travel to Santa Rosa for 4 p.m. SCL dual meets with El Molino and Healdsburg Thursday, April 17.
