The Wine Country Film Festival and Kenwood Restaurant and Bar present an evening of discussion and insight focusing on the future of sustainable renewable seafood from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27.
There will be a screening of the award-winning documentary “Red Gold” at 7 p.m.
“Red Gold” addresses the environmental degradation of cold-water creeks by the threat of massive mining development in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Bristol Bay is a pristine Alaskan watershed with the most productive Pacific sockeye salmon rivers in the world, teeming with millions of native fish. “Red Gold” also raises important issues that relate to the restoration of salmon and trout in the Sonoma Creek watershed.
After the film, Bill Foss, restaurant owner and co-owner of TwoXSea, will discuss the sustainable/renewable criteria for seafood, how better to understand it regarding the catch methods used throughout fisheries. Cards will be handed out that highlight the seafood attendees should be eating and when to eat it. Joining Foss will be several local experts who will talk about the state of the Sonoma Creek watershed and why the choices we make insure a sustainable and renewable seafood future.
The evening program includes a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the film and discussion. The $15 cost includes hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar.
There will also be a local sustainable dinner at 6 p.m. Kenwood Restaurant and Bar Chef Anthony Paone will prepare a special menu for this event which includes Deerfield Ranch Winery wines paired with each course.
Cost for the dinner, film and discussion is $60.
