SONOMA RACEWAY’S 2014 Big O Tires major events schedule will open with the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival on May 17 and 18, followed by the popular NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 weekend taking place Friday through Sunday, June 20 to 22: the annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals the weekend of July 25 through 27, preceded by the NHRA Division 7 Drag Races July 18 through 20; the IndyCar Series, featuring the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, set for the weekend of Aug. 22 through 24; the FIA World Touring Car Championship from Sept. 20 to 21; and the Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge on Oct. 4 and 5. SONOMA VALLEY BABE Ruth Baseball Association will hold its final registration session for all players 13-to-15-years-old on or before April 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Arnold Field snack bar tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 8. Any new player to Babe Ruth must furnish an original-sealed birth certificate, which will be returned upon inspection by a league officer at the sign-ups. Cost for the 2014 season is $195 a player, and the league also requires each family to work a snack-bar shift during the season and a second check for $100 is needed as a snack-bar deposit. This is a refundable check that will be returned after a snack-bar shift is worked. SVBR is still accepting letters of intent, including a resume of coaching experience, to manage or coach during the 2014 season, and should forward letters to S.V.B.R., P.O. 2113, Sonoma, CA 95476. BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS Sonoma Valley are holding registration for youth T-ball and coach-pitch baseball for boys and girls ages 4 to 8 years old until Feb. 14. Cost is $70 for club members and $190, including $120 for club membership, for non-club members. SONOMA STOMPERS PRO baseball team, which is a member of the six-team Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs league and will play its home games at Arnold Field, will be holding its first open tryout from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Albert Park in San Rafael. Representatives from all the PAPBC teams will be in attendance looking to fill roster spots for the 2014 season. Pre-registration cost is $100 and day-of registration is $150. All players are welcome, however it is recommended that those players wishing to tryout have exhausted amateur eligibility and have previous pro or college experience.
