SMGA, SVGC; Swingers; Hanna, mentoring benefit tourneys

The Sonoma Men’s Golf Association traveled north to Windsor Golf Club on Sunday, Aug. 3, to walk in the footsteps as such PGA Tour stars Tom Lehman and Stuart Appleby, who both won on that course when the Buy.com (then Ben Hogan/Nike) Tour made an annual stop there during the early 1990s. The event was qualifying for both the NCGA Net Amateur and the SMGA Club Championship.

In the net flight, Tony Enz came away as the winner with a fine round of 67, followed by the trio of Myron Donesky, Tom Martin and Ron Sharek, who all carded 69s, and after a scorecard playoff Donesky grabbed second place, while Martin and Sharek settled for third and fourth, respectively, and Woody Frink was fifth at 72.

In the gross division, Richard Davison suffered a late-round double-bogey, but recovered to shoot 72, while George Bevan’s 78 was good enough for second place.

In the closest-to-the-pin competition, Nick Blonder grabbed the fifth hole with a shot to 6 feet, 1 inch, while Davison was lucky enough to grab the uphill seventh with a shot to 4-9, and the downhill 13th with a shot to 14 feet.

Donesky showed one reason he was near the top of the leaderboard with a shot to 15-7 on the 11th.
