The Mayacamas Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Starlight Dinner and Auction will be held from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Gordenker Ranch at the bottom of Trinity Road and Highway 12.

The site is an old heritage oak grove and the theme is western. Dinner will be catered by Olive and Vine and the band, Edge of Town will be performing. Tickets are $59 each or a table of 10 can be purchased for $549.

During the evening, there will be two auctions. Upon arrival, guests are greeted with a glass of Gloria Ferrero champagne and they can bid on the silent auction items ranging from local wines, art and pottery to fitness memberships, balloon rides over Wine Country, zip line adventures through the redwoods, a custom-made guitar and more.

The live auction begins after dinner and this year two of the major items will be a Holland America seven-day cruise for two to either Mexico, Alaska, Caribbean or New England – and a retired fire truck.

Details of the fire truck are on the website,

Historically, when the fire department has retired a fire truck, it is auctioned off at this event. The fire trucks are owned by the fire department, and since the department is 100 percent volunteer, it auctions them off in order to bring in revenue to operate.

There are also a handful of unique items that are hosted by local residents in their private homes. In the past, the department offered dinner for eight followed by a movie in a private outdoor theater with views to San Francisco and dinner for eight amongst a private collection of restored Mercedes Benz.

The band, The Edge of Town, donated an evening to the highest bidder to play at a private party. This is the only public fundraiser the department hosts annually and the funds are used to purchase equipment and training for the volunteer firemen, to build and maintain water storage on the mountain near the residents it serves.
