Seismic work will begin this week on the historic Blue Wing Inn on East Spain Street in downtown Sonoma.
The $350,000 project is being done to protect the building, which is a part of the Sonoma State Historic Park, in the event of an earthquake and to provide for a replacement roof.
Materials will be delivered starting today, Tuesday, July 1. The construction will begin on July 8 and is scheduled to be completed sometime this fall.
The work will involve the removal of the shingles, repairing the roof framing and installing plywood sheeting and re-shingling the roof.
Construction will not impact park activities. Visitors will have access to the Mission, Gen. Vallejo’s Home, the Toscano Hotel, the Barracks and the Casa Grande site.
The work is being done by the California Department of General Services Direct Construction Unit and the funding is coming from Proposition 84, which was approved by voters in 2006.
