The Valley’s most attended motorsports event has arrived, and the action is underway at Sonoma Raceway, as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series makes its 26th annual stop with the Toyota/Save Mart 350 weekend taking place today and running through tomorrow, Saturday, June 21, before concluding Sunday, June 22.
Defending champion Martin Truex Jr., who was the ninth different Toyota/Save Mart 350 winner in as many years, will attempt to repeat last year’s achievement on the famous 12-turn, 2.52-mile Valley road course and join the impressive list of former multi-winners at Sonoma Raceway.
With Vallejo’s Jeff Gordon alone atop the group of Sonoma champions with five titles (1998-2000, ’04, ’06), a Truex Jr. victory on Sunday would make him a double NASCAR winner along with Rusty Wallace (1990, ’96), Ernie Irvan (1992, ’94), Ricky Rudd (1989, 2002) and Tony Stewart (2001, ’05).
The Saturday on-track schedule includes the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West 200 (64 laps, 127.36 miles) race (12:30 p.m.), and the Lean1 Pole Day NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying, televised on Fox Sports 1.
On Sunday, the featured NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 race, which covers 110 laps, and 218.9 miles, begins at noon.
Tickets for NASCAR’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 weekend are $25 to $140 for a single day, and $95 to $180 for the weekend, with parking free, and kids ages 12-and-under get free admission on Friday (June 20). Discounts are available for military.
The Valley raceway is also offering new levels of value for the Toyota/Save Mart 350, as tickets start at $49 for race day, and for the first time, the raceway is offering kids’ pricing for NASCAR weekend. Children ages 12-and-under are admitted free on Friday, June 20; for $10 on Saturday, June 21; and for half the price of regularly-priced tickets ($69 and above) for the Toyota/Save Mart 350.
The best Sonoma Raceway ticket package is the 2014 Track Pass, which includes tickets to all major events.
Former Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants pitching great Vida Blue will be honored at tonight’s Children’s Champions Grand Marshal’s Banquet at Cline Cellars in Sonoma, which is a fundraiser for the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.
As grand marshal of NASCAR’s Toyota/Save Mart 350, Blue will also take part in pre-race activities on Sunday, June 22.
For more details or to purchase a seat for the Grand Marshal’s Banquet, contact Cheri Plattner at 933-3950 or visit sonoma.speedwaycharities.org/events/grand_marshal_banquet.
