Flowery celebrates bilingual students

Flowery Elementary School recently held its promotion ceremony for its 49 fifth graders. Its 22 Bilingual Achievement Award recipients were honored by Principal Esmeralda Sanchez-Moseley and fifth-grade teachers Dora-Aldina Chavarría and Osvaldo Rubio. The students honored were (back row from left) Marisol Morales, Toni Arzaga, Principal Esmeralda Sanchez-Moseley, Anthony Carranza, Ben Mallett, Benny Moreno, Lucas Llodra, Laura Zavala, Octavio Martinez, Alvaro Oseguera, Ella Coddington, Owen Nelson, Marisol Mackey, fifth-grade teacher Dora-Aldina Chavarría, Kassandra de Anda, fifth-grade teacher Osvaldo Rubio, Benjamin Goodman. To qualify for the award, students must earn a B average in Spanish and English language arts, achieve certain scores on Spanish and English standardized tests, write an essay in both languages and perform eight hours of community service.
