Once again, artist manager and philanthropist Bruce Cohn is bringing some of the biggest names in music right here to Sonoma Valley with the announcement of the headliners for the 2014 B. R. Cohn Charity Events Fall Music Festival, to be held Friday, Sept. 19 - Monday, Sept. 22, at the B.R. Cohn Winery. The charity fund-raising weekend includes an auction dinner with Chef Mark Stark on Friday and a golf tournament on Monday. To the music; Saturday, Sept. 20, the headliners will be Melissa Etheridge performing solo, along with the Wallflowers, Los Lonely Boys, members of Little Feat, the Curly Wolf and more to be announced. Sunday, Sept 21, will feature Peter Frampton, Huey Lewis and the News, Los Lonely Boys, members of Little Feat, the Curly Wolf and more to be announced. Perennial favorites the Doobie Brothers could not make the show work due to scheduling conflicts. Over the last 27 years of the annual festival, the charity has donated back almost $6 million to local charities and veterans groups. Sebastiani Winery and Tasting Room has the first “Food Truck Friday” tonight, May 30, with an appearance by BackTrax, kicking off at 6 p.m. The act has a new line-up for the year, bringing in veteran keyboard player Bob McBain and journeyman sax player Keith Ridenhour. There is no cover and the venue is child- and dog-friendly, but no outside alcohol, including beer, is allowed.
Jack London Village in Glen Ellen, along with the Glen Ellen Historical Society is presenting another “Happy Daze Are Here Again” music festival on Saturday, May 31, with many local acts on the deck at the historic property. The day kicks off at noon with the Impromptus, followed by Bjorn Again and Blonde Sandwich, with Dave Aguilar and friends, Ten Foot Tone and the DaveEdJohn Quartet wrapping up the day. There is no cover for the event but donations and will be gladly accepted.
The Sonoma Valley Regional Library is presenting Rua Samba on Saturday, May 31, kicking off at 2 p.m. The band explores a wide variety of Brazilian music including samba, choro, bassa nova, and balao, some of which dates to the early ’30s and reveals a culture rich in lovely melodies and exciting rhythms. Members of the band are Philip Van Gelder on guitar, Sandy Feldhorn on flute, sax and percussion, and Dan McGee on bass. There is no cover for the show.
The Annex Wine Bar has Dawn Angelosante and Dierdre Egan tonight, May 30, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, it’s 2 Friends and Cliff, also for a 7:30 p.m. show. There is no cover for any of the shows but the venue is 21 and over.
The Erik James Tasting Room has music tonight, May 30, with Charlie Hickox, “Snakebite”Jacobs and Tim Eschliman kicking off at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 31, it’s Macy Blackman, also for a 7 p.m. show. There is no cover either night.
Viansa Winery in Carneros has music on Saturday, May 31, with the Smart Fellers, starting at noon. There is no cover and folks are invited to enjoy wine and a sandwich from the deli.
