The highest-paying jobs for 2014 grads with liberal arts majors are in foreign languages and literature (average starting salary $46,900) and English ($42,200), according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers. The results are based on job offers that students accepted earlier this year. The average salary for all humanities and social-science majors was $38,365, up 3.5 percent from 2013. Engineering majors – the highest-paid of those tracked – received an average pay of $62,719. boltstaffing.com...

News coming out of a related study: less than 2 percent of U.S. employers said they actively recruit liberal arts majors, and most companies feel that cultural fit is more important than GPA when deciding on new hires. Employers said that they have the most openings for engineering and computer information systems majors, followed by jobs for those in medicine and nursing. http://tinyurl.com/nxrwyxf...

The Sonoma Valley High School Boosters Club is seeking a membership coordinator, or two co-membership coordinators, for the upcoming school year.  Boosters supports not just athletics at the high school but almost every extracurricular program as well. Membership is a vital position that is busiest at the start of the year. The current membership coordinators are happy to help during the transition process. This is a great way to get involved and support the school. Contact Lynn Curry at lynncurry@comcast.net to learn more. Boosters is also in need of a used laptop for its financial business.  If anyone might be able to donate a PC-based laptop that is less than five years old, email ourschools@sonomanews.com. Finally, consider “liking” Boosters on facebook (http://tinyurl.com/ontq46z) to keep up-to-date on news and events at the high school.

Grad Night is a great tradition at Sonoma Valley High. The celebration brings seniors together for an all-night, drug- and alcohol-free graduation party before they head out into the world. Typically, more than 250 graduating seniors participate, but making the ambitious event a success requires a lot of help from the community. Parents from all grades are invited to help set up June 5, break down June 7, work the night of the event June 6, or all three. To sign up, email debrarvaughn@comcast.net.
