Schools to get $34K for career education

The Career Technical Education (CTE) Fund, has approved a second year of grants to Sonoma County high schools for CTE programs totaling $213,000 for school year 2014-15.

The Sonoma Valley Unified School District received two $17,000 grants from the program. One, a renewed grant for the Principals of Engineering program supports Linked Learning pathway for Engineering to include work based learning opportunities such as internships, externships, transportation and other course expenses.

The second, a new grant for plant and soil science supports student-based projects in horticulture as part of Agriculture Pathway

The fund has raised more than $960,000 since 2012, in donations and pledges through year 2017 from public and private donors.

Following initial pledges from the John Jordan Foundation and the County of Sonoma totaling $505,000 over five years, donations/pledges have nearly doubled the fund’s total and include a combination of private individual, family foundation and corporate gifts.
