Sonoma Valley High School’s Earth Club has just finished phase one of a big redwood grove planting project on the campus grounds. Led by advisor Gary Gissell, the students planted 17 coastal redwoods in the front northwest corner of the property. They are adding to the redwoods that were planted by Dragon students back in 1941. The planned “London’s Grove,” which will also feature a fern garden, rose garden, a redwood arch entrance and natural benches, should be completed by spring 2015. So far, all expenses have been paid by the high school’s Earth Club, but the Club is now out of money and will be seeking community donations (cash or materials) for phase two of the project. When finished, the project will also feature complete shade canopy with a natural walking path winding throughout the grove where students can get away from the hustle of Dragon life on campus.
