With junior ace Hannah Herrick pitching a near-perfect game, and senior Amber Rose and junior Shawny McVeigh sparking a 13-hit attack, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity softball girls overwhelmed Piner for a 14-0 five-inning, 10-run-rule Sonoma County League victory last Thursday at the high school field.
In the Lady Dragons’ regular-season home finale, Herrick ended up firing a no-hitter with five strikeouts, and was just one walk away from a five-inning perfect game.
Before the first pitch, Sonoma honored its four seniors Rose, Samantha Richards, Lindsey Rocha and Michelle Stovall, who all turned in productive efforts, including Rose’s three-for-four with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored; Richards’ two-for-four with a double, RBI and run; Rocha’s two-for-four with three runs and an RBI; and Stovall’s one-for-three with two runs.
Also leading the Lady Dragons were McVeigh’s two-for-three, including a double, three RBIs and two runs; freshman Hayden Pearce’s two-for-two with three runs and an RBI; Herrick’s single and two RBIs; and frosh Bella Fanucchi’s RBI.

Sonoma’s varsity baseball boys’ SCL Friday showdown with Petaluma was rained out and rescheduled for 7 p.m. tomorrow evening, Wednesday, April 30, at Arnold Field.
