Ballard again medals, drives Dragon golfers past Petaluma, netters edged by Trojans

Both the Sonoma Valley High School boys’ golf and tennis teams battled longtime Sonoma County League rival Petaluma on Tuesday and racked up a home win and road loss, respectively.

For his third straight SCL match, junior Christian Ballard showed why he is a returning all-leaguer and North Coast Section qualifier by achieveing medalist honors in his third consecutive match, keying the Dragons to a 234-260 clubbing of Petaluma in both their home and regular-season finale at the Sonoma Golf Club.

Following a prematch honoring of the six Dragon seniors – Tom Aubin, Dario Minatta, Dante Monterosso, Nick Narlock, Riley Rohrbacher and Bailey Woodworth – Ballard shot a match-low, nine-hole round of 43 in leading Sonoma past the visiting Trojans.

Also leading the Dragons were junior Brett Sullivan’s 44; junior Cyle Gusse’s 45; and seniors Monterosso and Minatta's 51 each.

The Sonoma golfers, coached by Grant Dobson and Pat Armitage, finish the dual-match season in second place and will take their final shot of overtaking first-place El Molino at Monday's SCL championship tournament in Windsor.
