A pair of tough Sonoma County League golf and tennis home outings on Tuesday didn’t go Sonoma Valley High School’s way, with the tennis boys being upended by first-place Analy, while the boy golfers dropped a 212-226 decision to El Molino on the Sonoma Golf Club course.
Pacing the golfing Dragons were junior Christian Ballard’s nine-hole round of 43; senior Dario Minatta’s 44; junior Brett Sullivan’s 45; and seniors Dante Monterosso and Bailey Woodworth’s 47 apiece.
The Dragon golfers will host both Healdsburg and Piner in 3:30 p.m. SCL matches on Tuesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 17, respectively, at SGC.
Sonoma’s tennis boys won two doubles matches, but it was too late for them to rally back after being swept in singles during their 5-2 loss to SCL unbeaten front-runner Analy.
Claiming their matches for the Dragons were juniors Vince Caruso and Kaden Cable’s 6-4, 6-1 victory over Jeremy Rozet and Lucas Brooker at No. 1 doubles; and sophomores Ian Bon and Fabian Metelmann’s 6-0, 7-6 triumph over Connor Kearney and Carlos Corona at No. 3 doubles.
Sustaining Sonoma’s losses were junior Caleb Horowitz’s 0-6, 2-6 to Nick Wight at No. 1 singles; senior Magnus Forsythe’s 1-6, 1-6 to Aidan Toner Rogers at No. 2 singles; junior James McKale’s 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7) to Derek Sevillo at No. 3 singles; junior Sam Sondheim’s 5-7, 6-7 (6-8) Michael Grieve at No. 4 singles; and freshmen Liam Handron and Matt McKale’s 2-6, 6-4, 5-7 to Greg Gonzales and Nate Ortega at No. 2 doubles.
The Dragon netters had a bye yesterday and will host both El Molino and Healdsburg in 3:30 p.m. SCL matches on Tuesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 17, respectively, at the high school courts.
