In two Sundays of action, the top of the Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League standings went from a four-team, first-place tie to a pair of knotted frontrunners.

While winning their past two games, defending regular-season champion Heffernan Insurance Brokers and La Salette share first place with 8-4 records each, followed by R&B Custom Home Builders’ 7-5, while defending playoff-champion Patt’s Copy World has dropped two straight and is tied with Murphy’s Irish Pub at 6-6, and VOM Fire is 1-11.

Heffernan Insurance Brokers toppled Patt’s Copy World 64-51, led by Kevin Jaggie’s game-high 21 points, Joe Neely’s 15 with three treys, eight each by Devin Ajax, Clem Moore and Brian Stephenson, and Pete Ahern and Steve Matuszak’s two apiece. Patt’s was paced by Dave Studdert’s 15 points with three treys, Dan Flohr’s 13, Max Frank’s 12, Mark Fidler’s nine and Scott Summers’ two.

La Salette downed Murphy’s Irish Pub 62-50, led by Aaron Locks’ 14 points, Marc Traverso’s 13, Kenton Lewis and Aaron Smith’s 11 each, Don Fowler’s 10, Manny Azevedo’s two and Mike Glasbrenner’s one. Pacing the Pub were Beni Comma’s game-high 20 points with four treys, Jamie Svanda’s 12, Rich Tunheim’s eight, Eric Jorgensen’s five, Steve Mellinger’s three and John Malinkowski’s two.

R&B Custom Home Builders stopped VOM Fire 65-47, led by Chris Nufo’s game-high 19 points with three treys, Al Martinson’s 16 with four treys, Kevin Schnabel and Ron Hall’s nine apiece, and Danny Dwyer and Chris Schnabel’s six each. VOM was paced by Gary Johnson and Tyler Nethaway’s 16 points apiece, Pat Dudy’s eight, Edwin Hidalgo’s five and Jason Campbell’s two.


On Sunday, March 9, Heffernan Insurance Brokers nipped Murphy’s Irish Pub 43-42, led by Jaggie’s 13 points, Ajax’s 12, Matuszak’s six, Neely’s five, Ahern’s four and Moore’s three. The Pub was paced by Jeff Kellogg’s game-high 17 points, Comma and Tunheim’s eight each, Svanda’s five, and Jorgensen and Mellinger’s two apiece.

La Salette defeated VOM Fire 74-47, led by Kim Batchelder’s game-high 38 points with four treys, Lewis’ 14, Rick Cantor’s 12, Traverso’s six and Azevedo’s four. Pacing the Fire were Pat Dudy’s 19 points with five treys, Campbell’s nine on three treys, Rob Ingersoll’s nine, Nethaway’s eight and Matt Ingersoll’s two.
