In the wake of losing seven standout seniors to graduation, this looked to be a rebuilding year for the defending Sonoma County League champion Sonoma Valley High School tennis boys, who responded by getting their 2014 SCL season off to an upbeat start with back-to-back victories.

After they smacked El Molino 5-2 in their opener, the Dragons hammered Healdsburg 6-1, before being dealt their first SCL defeat by the same 6-1 score to perennially strong Petaluma – results from the three matches weren’t available at presstime.

Sonoma’s young defending SCL champion tennis boys’ team – directed by head coach Thomas Byrne, assistant coach David Montano and special assistant Rocco Lucero – consists of lone senior Magnus Forsythe; juniors Kaden Cable, Vince Caruso, Caleb Horowitz, James McKale, Sam Sondheim and Luke Vaughn; sophomores Ian Bond, Fabian Metelmann, Miles Pimentel and Skyler Trygstad; and freshmen Evan Alcantar, Liam Handron and Matthew McKale.
