Opening their Sonoma County League season in exciting fashion at the Northwood Golf Course next to the Russian River in Monte Rio, the Sonoma Valley High School boy golfers battled El Molino on an even basis for nine tough holes.

But in the end, it was the visiting Dragons who were able to undercut their El Molino foes and escape with a nail-biting 228-231 SCL victory.

Leading Sonoma past the Lions were senior Dario Minatta’s round of 43, followed by returning North Coast Section qualifier junior Christian Ballard’s 44, senior Bailey Woodworth’s 45, junior Cyle Gusse’s 47 and senior Dante Monterosso’s 49.

Rounding out the Sonoma boys’ golf roster – directed by first-year coaches Grant Dobson and Pat Armitage – are senior Tom Aubin, Nick Narlock and Riley Rohrbacher; juniors Austin Dunn, Jackson Keechler and Brett Sullivan; and freshmen Nick Atwood and Sam Demartini.

The Dragon boys will host longtime SCL rival Analy in their 3:30 p.m. home opener today at the Sonoma Golf Club, before teeing off at league foe Healdsburg this Thursday, March 13.
