SONOMA RACEWAY’S POPULAR Wednesday Night Drags and drift program has begun its 26th season and will be held every Wednesday evening through Nov. 12. The Valley raceway’s 2014 Big O Tires major events schedule will open with the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival on May 17 and 18, followed by the popular NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 weekend taking place Friday through Sunday, June 20 to 22: the annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals the weekend of July 25 through 27, preceded by the NHRA Division 7 Drag Races July 18 through 20; the IndyCar Series, featuring the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, set for the weekend of Aug. 22 through 24; the FIA World Touring Car Championship, which has been moved up a weekend to Sept. 13 and 14; and the Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge on Oct. 4 and 5. SONOMA STOMPERS PRO baseball team, which is a member of the four-team Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs league, will be holding its first open tryout starting 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, at Sonoma’s Peterson Field, 175 First St. W. Pre-registration cost is $100 and day-of registration is $150.
