Knowing that the current storms, and much needed rainfall, would interrupt their schedule, the Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity baseball boys went into Tuesday afternoon’s game in Novato happy to avoid a rainout.
Following the clash with longtime nonleague rival San Marin, the Dragons probably wished they were rained out after mustering only one run on just one hit in sustaining a 2-1 loss.
Sonoma’s lone hit was a single by sophomore catcher MacLean Meyn, with senior Austin Bailey’s RBI sacrifice fly plating junior Kyle Dunevent with the only run, as both Mustang runs were unearned.
Starting senior pitcher Mitch Hood took the tough mound loss after going five innings for the Dragons, with senior Jimmy Flatt pitching the final two scoreless innings.
Sonoma’s baseball boys, whose long haul and game in Eureka on Saturday, March 1, was still pending due to rain at presstime, with the Dragons scheduled to host Drake in their home opener at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, at Arnold Field.
