It’s been a challenging dual-match season for the defending Sonoma County League champion Sonoma Valley High School varsity wrestlers, who’ve had to deal with a smaller roster and continual incomplete lineups due to graduation, but still managed to post a 4-2 SCL dual-match record and finish in third place.

As decisive underdogs, the third-seeded Dragons will try to overcome the odds of beating out top-seeded dual-champion Healdsburg and second-seeded Analy in tomorrow’s, Saturday, Feb. 22, SCL championship tournament at Elsie Allen in Santa Rosa to claim a share of the crown for a repeat league title.


Sonoma’s 2014 spring sports officially get under way today with the varsity baseball boys playing their preseason nonleague opener at Terra Linda today, while the varsity softball Lady Dragons open at Novato tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 22.

The varsity Dragon baseball boys will then play at San Marin on Tuesday, Feb. 25, and in Eureka on Saturday, March 1, before returning home to host Drake at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, at Arnold Field.

Sonoma’s varsity softball girls will host Encinal at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, at the high school field.
