The Jack London Piano Club’s first concert in its 2014 series of piano recitals to benefit Jack London State Historic Park features a world premiere of a new composition, “Jack’s Ode to Charmian,” with lyrics from the 1905 love letters Jack London wrote to his future wife Charmian Kittridge.
The concert will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the House of Happy Walls Museum at Jack London State Historic Park, 2400 London Ranch Road in Glen Ellen.
The music for this new composition was written by Jud Goodrich. Goodrich is founder of the Jack London Piano Club that has raised more than $7,000 since 2011 to benefit the park and its recently marked 25th anniversary. Copies of the sheet music for this new musical composition and celebration of the Londons’ love affair will be available at the concert.
Guest vocalist Dr. Ralph Hoyal will sing this new love song. Hoyal will be accompanied by Goodrich playing Charmian London’s grand piano. This will set the seasonal theme for this Piano Club concert celebrating both Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day holidays.
Tickets, which include parking, are $20 and are available in advance at the Museum store and online at the park website jacklondonpark.com. Limited seating is available. Performance space can be reached by stairway only; for more information about access, call 938-5216.
