Comedy takes center stage for two shows Saturday, Feb. 22, at Murphy’s Irish Pub.
Dave Thomason is the featured comic in a lineup that includes Shanti Charan and Matt Lieb.
Thomason is a comedian, writer, and sweetheart. He was recently named a Comic to Watch by Comedy Central. He has performed at several festivals across the country including the SF Sketchfest, New York Comedy Festival, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, and Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival. You may have heard him telling jokes on SiriusXM and NPR’s “Snap Judgment.” Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Thomason can now be seen performing regularly at venues all over Los Angeles.
Charan’s bubbly personality and contagious smile lure in audiences and her comedic abilities keep them laughing. She is a fast-rising fresh face in the Bay Area comedy scene. Her ability to formulate quick connections makes it easy for her to communicate with diverse audiences. She won first place in the 2011 Rooster T Feather’s Comedy Competition and participated in the 2011 San Francisco International Comedy Competition where she advanced to the semi-finals. Charan was recently awarded SF Weekly’s 2012 Best Stand-Up on the Way Up. SF Weekly says Charan’s writing “is clever and confident beyond her years.”
Move over Shuckey Duckey, Lieb is a new catchphase-based urban racial humorist in town. With catchphrases like “say what?” “women be trippin’” and “they don’t think it be like it is, but it do,” Lieb has taken the San Francisco Bay Area comedy scene by storm. He has performed with the likes of Brent Weinbach, Moshe Kasher, and W. Kamau Bell. This year will mark Lieb’s fifth year performing at SF Sketchfest.
