The Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League, which plays its games at the Altimira Middle School gym, has reached the midway point of the 2013-14 season and defending playoff champion Patt’s Copy World stands alone atop the six-team standings with a 6-2 record.
Following first-place Patt’s Copy are La Salette and R&B Custom Home Builders with a 5-3 mark each, Murphy’s Irish Pub and defending regular-season champion Heffernan Insurance Brokers at 4-4 apiece, and VOM Fire’s 0-8.
In last Sunday’s Jack Benny games, Patt’s Copy World downed Murphy’s Irish Pub 69-50, led by Lenny Clayburg’s game-high 19 points with four treys, Tim Lilly’s 17 with three treys, Jeremy Lawson’s 12, Mark Fidler’s 11 with three treys and Dave Studdert’s 10. The Pub was paced by Jeff Kellogg’s 16 points, Beni Comma’s 12 with three treys, Jamie Svanda’s 11, Rich Tunheim’s eight, and Dan Sooter and Eric Jorgensen’s two each.
La Salette topped R&B Custom Home Builders 75-41, led by Kim Batchelder’s 22 points, Aaron Smith’s 20, Aaron Locks’ 13, Don Fowler’s 12, John Reed’s four, Manny Azevedo’s three and Mike Glasbrenner’s one. Pacing the Builders were Al Martinson’s game-high 27 points with an eye-opening seven treys, Danny Dwyer and Ron Luddy’s six apiece, and Chris Schnabel’s two.
Heffernan Insurance Brokers edged VOM Fire 57-54, led by Cody Sanderlin’s 14 points, Clem Moore’s 13, Joe Neely’s 12, Pete Ahern’s seven, Kevin Jaggie’s six, Brian Stephenson’s three and Steve Matuszak’s two. VOM was paced by Tyler Nethaway’s game-high 17 points, Chris Ratto and Rob Ingersoll’s 12 each, Edwin Hidalgo’s 10 with three treys, Joe Kirkwood’s two and Jason Campbell’s one.
On Sunday, Jan. 26, Murphy’s Irish Pub beat La Salette 56-47, led by Kellogg’s game-high 32 points with four treys, Svanda’s six, Comma and Steve Mellinger’s five apiece, Jorgensen’s four and Sooter and John Malinkowski’s two each. Pacing La Salette were Batchelder’s 22 points with three treys, Aaron Smith’s 20, Aaron Locks’ 13, Don Fowler and Kenton Lewis’ eight apiece, Reed’s seven and Glasbrenner’s two.
R&B Custom Home Builders defeated VOM Fire 58-47, led by Schnabel’s 16 points, Vic Sanz’s 15, Martinson’s 11 with three treys, Ron Hall’s 11, Dwyer’s four and Luddy’s two. The Fire was paced by Chris Rossi’s game-high 22 points with three treys, Hidalgo’s 12, Gary Johnson’s nine, AJ Armanini’s four and Kirkwood’s two.
