An unidentified, 25-year-old man was stabbed multiple times during a Jan. 26 melee at the El Verano Inn, at 705 Laurel Ave.

According to a report from the Sheriff’s Valley substation, deputies were dispatched to the bar at about 12:08 a.m. that Sunday, following the report of a fight involving about 20 subjects. When they arrived, deputies learned that the fight had broken up and all involved parties, except the lone victim, had scattered. The deputies were told by witnesses that numerous young, Hispanic males had entered the bar and confronted a lone, 25-year-old man, and then forced him outside where a large fight ensued. During the melee, the man was stabbed multiple times in the upper body. He was first transported to Sonoma Valley Hospital, and was later transferred to an area trauma center where he was treated for injuries from which he is expected to survive.

No arrests had been made at press time and the victim had not yet been identified. The sheriff’s Violent Crimes Investigation detectives have assumed control of the investigation.
