Reeling from back-to-back Sonoma County League road losses, after five straight SCL wins that had them tied for first place, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball girls were in need of posting a victory to wrap up their recent three-game road trip, and keep their dimmed SCL title hopes alive.

On Friday night in Forestville, the Lady Dragons got back on the winning track in a big way by riding the standout junior tandem of Delaney Swanson and Ciara Smith to a 35-6 halftime lead and 60-16 walloping of El Molino.

With the win, Sonoma is now alone in second place trailing first-place and SCL-unbeaten Analy by one game in the standings with four games left in the regular season after the Tiger girls beat third-place Petaluma Friday evening.

In their runaway victory at El Molino, the Lady Dragons were led by Swanson’s double-double of a career-best 22 points to go with 10 rebounds; Smith’s nine points, 14 rebounds and six blocks; junior Alexa Hall’s eight points; junior Sierra Lilly’s six points; junior Shelby Camilleri’s four points and eight rebounds; and senior Megan Neely and sophomore Bella Bollman’s four points each, senior Giana Monterosso’s two and senior Maddie Burningham’s one.

The Lady Dragons are home for a pair of SCL games this week, hosting Piner at 6 p.m. tomorrow night, Wednesday, Feb. 5, and Elsie Allen at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, in Pfeiffer Gym.
