It’s being billed with two words we can’t use together this time of year, so let’s just call it the “Big Enormous Game Eve Crab Feed” and is being presented by the Sonoma Boosters as a fundraiser for extra-curricular activities at Sonoma valley High School.
If you think the Boosters are only about athletics, then you’ve got it all wrong, as the group helps the music, art and drama programs, as well as athletics and so much more. The event will take over the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building on Saturday, Feb. 1, starting at 6 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction, followed by a buffet dinner and then dancing to the sounds of the Scallywags. For tickets and more info, call 241-3268. If you already have dinner plans, dancing only tickets can be purchased after 8 p.m. for $10.
Saturday, Feb. 1, the Sonoma Community Center presents “Black and White Jazz” in the second of a three-show series. In separate concerts, tonight’s show features songs from Harold Arlen, Jimmy Van Heusen and Rodgers & Hart with the March 8 show showcasing Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini and more. The vocalists will be backed by the Black & White Jazz Quartet, featuring Tim Wat on piano, Erik Nelson on trumpet and vocals, Andy Dudnick on bass, and Jimmy C on drums. “Black & White jazz brings these great composers to the forefront by sharing their greatest work and, hopefully, sending our audience away with a new understanding and appreciation of both the music and the composers who built The Great American Songbook,” said Sonoma Community Center's Executive Director Toni Castrone. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the center box office until 3 p.m. today, Jan. 31, then at the door if available.
