The Winter Concert Series continues at the Sonoma Community Center on Saturday, Jan. 25, on the Rotary Stage with a performance by John Jorgenson.
Jorgenson is known for his blistering guitar licks and mastery of a broad musical palette and has earned a reputation as a world-class musician and guitarist, collaborating with the likes of Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan.
In addition to acoustic and electric guitars, he is regularly featured on saxophone, clarinet, bouzouki, pedal steel, mandolin and vocals and has garnered recognition for contributing to numerous platinum-selling and Grammy Award-winning albums. Jorgenson is a founding member of the Desert Rose Band, the Hellecasters, and a six-year member of Elton John’s band.
His collaborations include the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band, the John Jorgenson gypsy jazz quintet and the John Jorgenson Electric Band. Tickets are available at the Sonoma Community Center box office or at the door if available. For more info, call 938-4626, ext. 1.
Members of the Sonoma Valley High School Honors Band have a little something to brag about, with several of them chosen for a regional honors band that includes Napa and Sonoma musicians. There will be a concert at American Canyon High School tonight, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. Representing Sonoma will be Hank Anderson, Michael Molina, Max Shepard, Victoria Jarvis and Kyle Anderson.
Dan Martin and the Noma Rocksteady Band have finished their first CD and are planning a release party sometime in March. We got an advanced copy and can say this is a show you won’t want to miss. Details on the show will be announced soon. The act is quickly becoming one of the top traditional reggae acts in the North Bay.
The El Verano Inn has another epic punk rock show tonight, Jan. 24, with appearances by Harrington Saints, Roadside Bombs plus Bobbie Hollywood and The Quitters. Showtime is 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, the inn presents Junior Boogie and DJ Robert Roots and Irie Sounds, along with a reggae sensation from Trinidad, Khari Kill. Kill had a number-one song on the reggae charts in 2007. Showtime is 9:30 and there is no cover either night.
The Annex Wine Bar has JMB and the Big O tonight, Jan. 24, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 it’s Vitamin Girl, also for a 7:30 p.m. show. There is no cover either night.
The Erik James Tasting Room has music tonight, Jan. 24, with Left Coast Syncopators, featuring Tim Eschliman, Snakebite Jacobs and Kevin Zuffi, kicking off at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, it’s the Tri Tip Trio, featuring Lloyd Meadows and Bruce Gordon of the Zydeco Flames also for a 7 p.m. show. There is no cover either night.
Murphy’s Irish Pub has JED tonight, Jan. 24, for an 8 p.m. show. Saturday, Jan. 25, the pub presents the Perfect Crime, also for an 8 p.m. show. Sunday, Jan. 26, it’s Sonoma’s Treasure Artist Dave Aguilar with Peter McCauley for an early show at 6:30 p.m.
The Epicurean Connection presents Jason Huybers tonight, Jan. 24, for a 7:30 p.m. show. Saturday, Jan. 25, it’s Ian Franklin and Infinite Frequency, also for a 7:30 p.m. start. Sunday, Jan. 26, it’s the June Drops kicking off at 1 p.m.
