Completing a string of preseason weekend events in preparation for their Sonoma County League campaign, the defending champion Sonoma Valley High School varsity wrestlers competed in the Demolition Day Tournament at AA Staggs High School in Stockton on Saturday.

The Dragons will next begin defense of their title when they host longtime rival Healdsburg in their SCL dual-match opener at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 8, in Golton Hall.

At the Demolition Day Tourney, the Dragon grapplers were paced by senior Max Schimm’s 3-1 second-place record with one pin at 152 pounds; senior Harris Meglen’s 2-1 second-place with one pin at 120 pounds; freshman Noah Bartolome’s 2-2 at 145; sophomore Brandon Ruiz’s 0-2 at 170; and sophomore Dalton Elster’s 0-2 in the heavyweight division.

In the junior varsity tourney, Sonoma was paced by sophomore Austin Beltran’s 3-1 second-place with one pin at 170 pounds; and frosh Jackson Goertzen’s 3-1 second with one pin at 126.
