Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the 10 block of Meadowbrook Avenue at about 3:35 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, after receiving a report that a man had threatened to shoot a woman and her children, and that he then tried to run them down. The victim told deputies that she had no relationship with the man, Samuel Macias, 51, of El Verano, and that that morning, while her 6-year-old son was at the bus stop, Macias started calling the youngster names, throwing rocks at him and threatening to shoot her and her children. When she picked her son up at the bus stop that afternoon, she heard a vehicle approaching from behind her. She turned to see Macias at the wheel, driving about 40 miles an hour. She told police he missed her, the 6-year-old and a 1-1/2-year-old toddler, by about six inches. When deputies went to Macias’ trailer, he was detained without incident and was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony making terrorist threats and a probation violation.
