As 2013 comes to a close, Sonoma Raceway is set for the arrival of the 2014 Big O Tires racing season, with its major events schedule opening in mid-May, preceded by some early drag-racing and a charity event on the Valley road course.
The 13-race Summit ET Bracket Drag Racing Series season kicks off at Sonoma Raceway on Jan. 5, with the popular Wednesday Night Drags, including the “Top the Cops” program, running from March 5 to Nov. 12.
On Saturday, Jan. 18, the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities – the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway – will host its inaugural Laps for Charity event at the Valley’s famous road course, with all the proceeds benefitting kids in need through Sonoma County youth organizations.
This unique experience, costing $100, will include pre-lap instruction with professional racing instructors, three lead-follow laps around the 12-turn, 2.52-mile circuit and a picture of your car on the track.
A limited number of spots in half-hour increments are currently available between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. the day of the event. Participants must be 18 years old or older, and passengers will not be permitted.

Sonoma Raceway’s 2014 major events schedule will open with the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival on May 17 and 18, followed by the popular NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 weekend taking place Friday through Sunday, June 20 to 22.
Back-to-back drag-racing weekends will then be held, highlighted by the 27th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals the weekend of July 25 through 27, that are preceded by the NHRA Division 7 Drag Races July 18 through 20.
Making its 10th appearance will be the IndyCar Series, featuring the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, and taking place the weekend of Aug. 22 through 24, followed by the third consecutive appearance of the FIA World Touring Car Championship from Sept. 20 to 21.
The major events schedule closes on Oct. 4 and 5, with the Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge.
